Sen. Ruth Johnson comments on 2022 State of the State address

LANSING, Mich. — After listening to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2022 State of the State address virtually Wednesday night, Sen. Ruth Johnson, R-Holly, issued the following statement:

“This governor has been a failure. She is the most partisan governor in my lifetime. Offering people all kinds of shiny things with the same federal money pouring into our state that is causing the inflation every Michiganian is seeing when they go to the grocery store does not excuse her poor leadership.

“This governor went against the advice of experts and put our most vulnerable citizens at far greater risk of contracting COVID-19 with her nursing home policies and then her health department vastly underreported deaths in these facilities. Meanwhile, her administration gave out $8.5 billion dollars in fraudulent unemployment payments while hardworking residents who couldn’t work because of her shutdown orders waited months for benefits.

“The GM investment is huge for our state and shows their commitment to Michigan as they modernize and move towards a future of electric vehicles, but this was a business decision and not due to any type of leadership from the governor. Let’s not forget that just three months ago Ford announced three new plants not in Michigan but in Kentucky and Tennessee and this governor didn’t even know about it.”
