LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Ruth Johnson reminded residents Tuesday of multiple great opportunities to enjoy some favorite summertime activities this weekend at no cost.
“This weekend — Saturday June 8 and Sunday June 9 — is Michigan’s free fishing weekend and free ORV weekend,” said Johnson, R-Holly. “This weekend is also a free weekend to visit any of Michigan’s 103 state parks or recreation areas.”
The free fishing weekend applies to both inland and Great Lakes waters. Residents and nonresidents alike can fish without a license on these two days. All other fishing regulations still apply.
“The free fishing weekend is a great opportunity for families to introduce the joy of fishing to the next generation,” Johnson said. “I encourage new and experienced anglers to take advantage of this opportunity for some free summer fun.”

Saturday and Sunday also mark the first of the summer’s two free ORV weekends, when off-road enthusiasts can ride designated routes and trails without an ORV license or trail permit. Riders can find out more at www.Michigan.gov/ORVInfo.
The state will also waive the regular Recreation Passport entry fee this weekend for vehicle access to Michigan’s 103 state parks and recreation areas.
“This weekend offers unique opportunities for Michigan families to have fun in our great outdoors doing something they love or trying an experience for the first time,” Johnson said.
